Venerable Chao Khun Fa Zhao BBM


Biography

Venerable Chao Khun Fa Zhao BBM, was born on 22nd June 1959 in Singapore. He took refuge in the Triple Gem at the age of 11. After completing his national service in 1979, he took novice ordination vows on 10 August. In the same year, he received his full ordination.

 

In 1988, Ven. Chao Kun Fa Zhao BBM, founded the "Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple". Located at a blessed land in Tampines, temple construction began in 1990, and was completed in 1992. Ven. Chao Kun Fa Zhao BBM then assumed the role of founding abbot for the temple.

 

In 1994, Ven. Chao Kun Fa Zhao BBM, founded Metta Welfare Association ("Metta"). Metta offers a wide range of facilities and services to help the less fortunate including the disabled, the elderly, and the terminally ill. It also provides rehabilitative services and day care centres for those who suffer from intellectual and physical disabilities and cerebral palsy. Its subsidiary the Metta School provides customised education and vocational training to students who suffer from slight intellectual disability and autism. Some of the school's graduates found gainful employment after completing their training.

 

In 2019, Ven. Chao Kun Fa Zhao BBM, was honoured with the title of "Chao Kun" by the Thai Sangha authorities and "BBM, (Bintang Bakti Masyarakat)", which refers to public service star in gold.

 

Ven. Chao Kun Fa Zhao BBM, has led many Sangha, and lay disciples to China, Thailand, Myanmar to make offerings to the local Sangha, organised short-term ordination programs, rebuilt Buddhist temples, and sponsored the education of young monastic talents.

 

Ven. Chao Kun Fa Zhao BBM is also the author of the book called 'The Pursuit of True Happiness and Other Life Observations' which contains many insights to lead a peaceful and meaningful life, in the midst of the fast-paced and materialistic world we live in today.

 

Despite his busy workload, he is also actively involved with charitable welfare activities in Thailand, Myanmar and Sri Lanka, helping to provide medical services, disaster relief, and education to the people there.
