The Chinese Zodiac
The Chinese zodiac, originating in China, is a categorization system based on the lunar calendar. It assigns an animal with specific characteristics to each year in a recurring 12-year cycle. This calendar can be traced back to the 14th century B.C. Legend has it that Emperor Huangdi, the first Chinese emperor, invented the Chinese lunar calendar in 2637 B.C., which follows the moon's cycles and establishes the sequence of Chinese zodiac animals. In Chinese astrology, this calendar was used to track years, months, days, and hours in the Chinese imperial court and civil calendar. It was also utilized for divination, predicting one's future and defining one's personality.
